Welcome to the Dutch Hospital Data website
The DHD Foundation was founded by the NVZ Dutch Hospitals Association and the University Medical Centers of the Netherlands (NFU) with the purpose of managing and maintaining hospital databases, supervising relevant databases maintained elsewhere and promoting the provision of high-quality information on hospital care.
DHD in a nutshell
The Dutch Hospital Data Foundation (DHD) was founded in early 2008 by the industry organisations NVZ Dutch Hospitals Association and the University Medical Centers of the Netherlands (NFU) in order to direct the collection of data in Dutch hospitals at the national level. One of the important considerations in this decision was that much of the data generated by the combined hospitals is a valuable source of information, both for the hospital branch specifically as well as the health care sector in general.
DHD collects, maintains and manages these hospital data. DHD also works to promote innovation in the data collections it maintains. Perhaps the most interesting example of this effort is the conversion of the old National Medical Registration (LMR) into the new integrated National Hospital Care Basic Registration (LBZ). This programme is an attempt to realise a one-entry registration and supply of hospital data to the DHD for a number of national purposes. The single registration and delivery should limit the hospitals’ administrative burden as much as possible.
DHD also has the task of promoting the provision of high-quality information on hospital care. As part of this task, DHD is charged with making available the data in the national hospital databanks. Interested parties can request information in accordance with the data request protocol.
