Data Desk
A number of bureaus collect periodical data from hospitals, either due to legal obligations to do so or for academic or policy research purposes. The development towards a demand-driven market for hospital care has led to changes in the role patterns among providers, users, financiers and the government. This in turn makes information a vital asset, requiring active management of the use of hospital data.
Dutch Hospital Data therefore supervises a number of databases that contain hospital data and are exploited for a variety of purposes. One of DHD’s main concerns is managing the administrative burden and the costs involved in these databases.
In order to organise the use of the data, two protocols have been created that describe how interested parties may request information: one protocol for DIS and LMR and another protocol for other databases.
The protocols and their relevant procedures have recently been subjected to a legal review and have been amended to comply with legislation in the field of privacy and transparency. For example, a provision has been included to require users to destroy data provided after use. The data desk function has also been given a more permanent character within the DHD bureau.
Data use protocols
DIS and LMR/LAZR Protocol
The ‘DIS and LMR/LAZR Data Use Protocol’ provides guidelines for providing information from the DBC Information System (DIS), the National Medical Register (LMR) and the National Outpatient Care Register (LAZR).
DIS and LMR/LAZR Data Use Protocol
Other Databanks Protocol
The ‘Data Use Protocol for Other Hospital Databanks’ applies to the other databases that DHD manages in addition to the DIS and LMR.
